The client
In 2021, Lillehammer will host the first joint World Para Snow Sports Championships in Para alpine skiing, Para Nordic skiing and Para snowboard from 4-15 February.

The championship will be the first Winter World Cup for disabled athletes where four branches are gathered. The athletes will compete in cross country skiing, skiing, alpine skiing and snowboarding.

A total of 750 participants, including athletes, guides and coaching staff, are expected to take part in the World Championships. The Local Organising Committee will aim to recruit 400 volunteers to support the events.
What we did
Greener Events was hired with the goal of contributing to making the event environmentally friendly. Greener Events see a huge potential for the para World Championship to take a stand and be in the forefront of green world championships aligning business, participants and athletes in the process. We conducted an opportunity study mapping the possibilities as well as the limitations with a stakeholder analysis and meetings.

Based on the findings, an environmental strategy was delivered containing barriers and possibilities as well as suggested measures to be implemented for minimizing environmental impact, engaging the audience and participants, while ensuring stakeholder contributions.
